The Impumelelo Economic Growth Lab is a unit at the BER that focuses on generating policy-relevant work and building capacity to achieve economic success in South Africa. Impumelelo means success.
South Africa’s municipalities face both a structural financial problem as well as a deeper governance malaise, but better governance is what will make financial recovery possible. Ultimately, though, it is up to residents to reinforce accountability by exercising their right to vote.
