Having plunged from +5 index points in 2012Q1 to -3 index points in 2012Q2, the latest survey results indicate that the FNB/BER CCI edged up to -1 during 2012Q3. While the FNB/BER CCI recovered some lost ground during 2012Q3, consumer confidence remains at levels last witnessed at the onset of the global financial crisis in the second half of 2008. Coupled with a projected slowdown in household income growth, low consumer confidence levels foreshadow a further deceleration in the growth in consumer spending during the remainder of 2012.
