Title: Business confidence recovers partially

The RMB/BER BCI increased from 41 in the second quarter to 47 in the third quarter of 2012. This partially reverses the big fall registered in the second quarter. Of all the sectors, the new motor trade registered the biggest increase in confidence, jumping by 14 points to 79. Retail sales improved relative to the second quarter of 2012, but the growth was less boisterous compared to the second half of 2011. The growth in manufacturing production slackened in the third quarter relative to the second quarter, but remained positive. The latest RMB/BER BCI indicates that GDP growth excluding mining probably picked up slightly in the third quarter.
