The seasonally adjusted Kagiso PMI was stable in May at 53.6 index points (53.7 during April). The largely unchanged headline figure masked some noteworthy developments in a number of the key PMI sub-components. A welcome – and unexpected – development was the 4.2 index point jump in the employment index to 53, the first time since February 2011 that the PMI signalled an expansion of the factory sector workforce.
