Title: BER Business Survey results see confidence...

The aim of this note is to summarize some specific insights and cross-cutting trends observed in the current round of BER surveys as a first indication of developments in the real economy during 2012Q1. Business confidence rose sharply but the confidence gain may reflect some catching up after the improvements in business conditions recorded during 2011Q4 – when confidence remained surprisingly low – given that limited further improvements in underlying activity indicators were reported in the current quarter. From a GDP growth perspective, the survey results do not necessarily point towards further acceleration from the 3.2% q-o-q (annualized) as recorded for 2011Q4.
